Fred Hassan of Schering-Plough is Executive of the Year in Scrip Awards 2007

Harten Group, sponsors of the Executive of the Year category in the Scrip Awards, was delighted to present the award to Fred Hassan, Chairman and CEO of Schering-Plough at the ceremony held in London on 4th December 2007.

Schering-Plough reaped three awards on the night - Large Pharma Company of the Year, Management Team of the Year and Executive of the Year - for its remarkable turnaround from takeover target to one of the more dynamic companies in its peer group in less than five years.

Fred Hassan was lauded for his exceptional leadership skills in effecting this reversal of fortunes, with his executive management team also being recognised for its part in executing the company's long-term Action Agenda for recovery.

Mr Hassan said: "We are honoured and inspired by winning these awards. They are a testament to the courage and tenacity of our people around the world who have executed the remarkable transformation of Schering-Plough on our special long-term journey". He added that the company would work hard to realise the promise of the Organon Biosciences acquisition and 'would not lose its sense of humility!'

Introducing the Award, Dr Vernon Harten-Ash said: "As the long-term sponsors of the Executive of the Year category in the Scrip Awards, we are proud to be associated with what has quite rightly become a firm fixture in the global pharma calendar.

"As a leading provider of technical consultancy services, interim management and permanent recruitment to the pharma and biotech industries, the Executive of the Year category has a perfect synergy with Harten Group's business. We too are looking for excellence in a person and in their performance within a company which put together make a powerful and extraordinary combination. We look for senior, able people who might work as part of a project team providing management consultancy or technical consultancy such as mergers and acquisitions support, due diligence advice or organisational design or re-design. We look for the same high quality in people who can come into your company and work for a few days a week for a few months - we call these interims. Last but not least we headhunt those elusive senior executives for permanent roles who can fuel a business and make it fly."

Presenting the awards this year was Dr Phil Hammond, doctor, writer, broadcaster and comedian. The Awards were held at the London Hilton Hotel on Park Lane.
